Men's Dreams Salad with Beef
Instructions
I prepare all the necessary ingredients. I boil the beef pulp. I peel the shells off the boiled eggs, and drain the excess liquid from the pickled onion.
I cut the boiled beef into small pieces or thin strips.
I grate the cheese on a fine grater.
I grate the boiled eggs on a vegetable grater.
I mix the pickled onion with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise.
I spread the onion evenly as the first layer in the pastry ring.
I mix the chopped beef with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise.
I lay the beef as the second layer on top of the onion.
I sprinkle the beef layer with ground black pepper to taste.
To the grated boiled eggs I add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and mix everything together.
I lay the eggs as the next layer.
The final layer is grated cheese.
Men's Dreams salad with beef is ready. I lift off the pastry ring and serve it to the table. If desired, I garnish it with herbs and cranberries.Enjoy your meal!
Tips
- 1
PICKLED ONION is the signature of this salad. Raw onion would be too sharp, while pickled onion gives a pleasant tang.
- 2
BOIL THE BEEF AHEAD OF TIME and let it cool – warm meat will "run" into the salad and ruin its shape.
- 3
CHEESE ON A FINE GRATER – an airy "cap" on top looks more attractive than coarsely grated cheese.
- 4
ASSEMBLE THE LAYERS IN A RING – it needs to be removed carefully by running a knife along the inner wall. The same principle works in other layered salads.

FAQ
How can I pickle onion quickly? +
A simple marinade: 100 ml of warm water + 2 tbsp of 9% vinegar + 1 tsp of sugar + a pinch of salt. Pour it over the chopped onion, leave for 15–20 minutes, then drain in a colander. A milder option: onion + the juice of 1/2 lemon + a pinch of sugar, 30 minutes. Express option: scald the onion with boiling water for 3 minutes. Red onion pickles faster (in 10 minutes) and looks more attractive because of its colour. Regular onion gives a more "classic" taste.
What can I substitute the beef with? +
Alternatives: boiled pork (fattier, more tender), boiled tongue (tender, more expensive), smoked chicken (a brighter taste), ham in cubes (a quick option), baked turkey. Beef is the classic; its "manly", dense taste suits the name of the salad. Pork adds the fattiness that "smooths out" the flavour. I do not recommend chicken – it will "dissolve" into the layers and "get lost". For a "festive" version, use boiled beef tongue – it is more expensive, but very tasty.
How long does the salad keep? +
In the refrigerator in a closed container – 2 days. On the second day the taste is even brighter, as the layers become soaked with mayonnaise. It is not worth keeping it longer – the mayonnaise loses its freshness and the meat "dries out". At room temperature – a maximum of 2 hours. It cannot be frozen – the layered structure will be completely destroyed. For a big celebration, assemble it 2–3 hours before serving. If it is for the next day, keep it in the ring in the refrigerator under cling film.
What should I serve the salad with? +
It is versatile – as a hearty appetiser for a festive or family dinner. With meat dishes, but it can also be a standalone meal. With strong drinks (vodka, whisky, cognac). With red or white dry wine. With dark or grey bread. For "men's" evenings – with beer. Garnish it with parsley and cranberries – this gives a beautiful colour contrast. For a birthday or celebration, serve it in portions in individual rings for each guest.
